Simultaneous work on the Juliana Canal and the Kreekrak locks

On Monday 12 August, Rijkswaterstaat will begin works on the Juliana Canal. Rijkswaterstaat will remove an old construction pit and subsequently widen the final section of the canal. The blockage will last until the spring of 2025. Shipping traffic must detour north on the River Meuse or south on the Albert Canal past Antwerp.

From 5 August to 27 September, maintenance work is also planned on the east lock of the Kreekrak locks. During this period, therefore, only the west lock will be available. Oosterweel works

In Antwerp, works on the canal tunnels as part of the Oosterweel connection and passage planning on the Albert Canal have started since 13 May.

The convergence of these various works is expected to cause waiting times for inland navigation. We recommend spreading the passages over time and taking advantage of off-peak hours for passage at the Albert Canal and the locks.

You can optimise your journey through Antwerp by using the Apics Barge:

•	Make lock reservations in the port three hours or more in advance.
•	Because of the Van Cauwelaert Lock's fixed lock times, you can make reservations there up to 12 hours in advance. (in-shutdowns take place on the even hour, out-shutdowns on the odd hour)
